Limbic System- a ring if interconnected structures in the midline of the brain and around the hypothalamus, involved with emotion and memory with the homeostatic regulatory systems
Methods of Researching the Brain (ex. Clinical research) - clinical research/ observations, manipulating the brain recording the brains electrical activity, neurological techniques
Parts of the Brain-
·         brainstem
·         medulla
·         reticular formation
·         thalamus
·         cerebellum
·         amygdale
·         hypothalamus
·         cerebral cortex
·         corpus collosum
·         hippocampus

Plasticity-the brains capacity for modification, as evident in the brain reorganization following damage and in experiments on the effects of experience on brain development
The Divided Brain (functions of each side)- the left and right side of the brain control different functions, the left side is called the dominant or major hemisphere and the right is called the subordinate of minor hemisphere , information from the left side goes to the right hemisphere and information from the right side goes to the left hemisphere , for example left handed people use the right side of their brain and vice versa
Nature vs. Nurture- controversy over the relative contributions that genes and experience make to the development of psychological traits and behaviors
Genes/DNA-the biochemical units of heredity that make up the chromosomes, a segment of DNA capable of synthesizing a protein
Evolutionary Psychology- the study of the evolution of behaviors and the mind using principles of natural selection
Natural Selection- the principal that among the range of inherited trait variations that that lead to increased reproductions and survival will most likely be passed on to succeeding genes
